DBU Fund Description

The WisdomTree Global ex-US Utility ETF tracks a dividend-weighted index of international utilities firms, excluding US-based firms.

DBU ETF.com Insight

DBU serves up a yield-focused play on utilities outside the US, but like its peer isn’t easy or cheap to trade. The fund weights the stocks in its basket by yield, and indeed itsDBU's yield focus produces country biases portfolio yield (Fit tab)beats our benchmark and peer fund IPU. The yield focus produces country biases however, notably an underweight of UK stocks and tilt toward Brazil. Still, the fund carries less single name risk than our benchmark and IPU, with a less concentrated stake in its top 10 names. Investor interest is hard to come by in the segment, and DBU strggles with asset gathering and is expensive to trade. Using limit orders or the issuer’s capital markets desk may help. (Insight updated 11/07/2014)

DBU ETF.com Fit Insight

DBU focuses on yield, a reasonable thesis in the utilities sector. The resulting portfolio indeed has a considerable higher yield than our benchmark but also comes with significant country biases toward Brazil and France and away from the UK. DBU favors water over natural gas and multiline utilities, and includes companies from industries outside the scope of our benchmark. (Insight updated 11/07/2014)
