DEMS Factset Analytics Insight

This fund is being liquidated, the last day of trading is April 24, 2018. The fund's investment objectives will be incorporated into a new ETF titled, EventShares U.S. Policy Alpha ETF (PLCY). DEMS is an actively managed fund that takes positions in companies the manager determines to be affected by Democratic policies, including short positions in companies expected to be negatively affected. Democratic policies are “the beliefs, party platforms, and executive and legislative priorities of the Democratic party”. Possible themes include increased immigration and naturalization, higher education support, higher wages for US workers, clean energy incentives, environmental protection, progressive taxation, and expanded access to healthcare.

While DEMS generally holds only US equities, the fund may also invest in fixed income securities, derivatives, currencies, or commodities, including non-US securities, to carry out the strategy. Even in light of its broad reach, short exposure, and active management, DEMS doesnt come cheap. Still, the fee may be justified for investors who like the funds unique exposure. Also consider GOP, the funds Republican-themed counterpart.
