EZA Fund Description

The iShares MSCI South Africa ETF tracks the performance of a market-cap-weighted index of South African stocks. It captures 85% of the publicly available market, excluding all small-caps.

EZA Factset Analytics Insight

EZA captures the South African total equity space with a cap-weighted basket that holds about half as many firms as our segment benchmark. It tilts large compared to our more comprehensive benchmark but nevertheless provides neutral sector exposure and fairly even concentration with one major exception: Naspers Ltd comprises roughly a quarter of the portfolio and the vast majority of its exposure to the tech sector. In this it accurately reflects the underlying market, but it's still a striking concentration in an otherwise broadly-distributed fund. It trades well in both small and large sizes, and robust volume keeps average spreads fair. Large premiums and discounts don't indicate poor liquidity; instead, they just highlight the mismatch in trading hours between fund shares and underlying stocks. Those looking to trade blocks can expect low transaction costs too.

The fund is expected to change its underlying index to MSCI South Africa 25/50 Index on or about 1 Spet 2017. The change will ensure compliance with RIC diversification requirement.
