FDN
FDN Fund Description
The First Trust Dow Jones Internet Index Fund tracks a market-cap-weighted index of the largest and most liquid U.S. Internet companies.
FDN Factset Analytics Insight
FDN does a great job of capturing the Internet industry at a competitive all-in cost. It holds the 40 biggest US internet companies, prominently featuring names like Amazon, Facebook and Alphabet (formerly Google). That's in contrast with our benchmark, which takes a much narrower view of the industry (Amazon, for example, is excluded as it's classified as a retailer). However, FDN's broader approach is perfectly valid. FDN's fee is in line with the other funds in its segment, but it isn't cheap for exposure to 40 large and liquid US companies. Still, it trades better than other US internet ETFs, keeping all-in costs reasonable. The fund dominates the segment in assets too. For plain vanilla internet coverage in a large and liquid wrapper, FDN can't be beat.
