FNDF Fund Description

The Schwab Fundamental International Large Company ETF tracks an index of large firms from developed markets, ex-US. Its selection and weighting is based on fundamental factors, including sales, cash flow and dividends/buybacks.

FNDF Factset Analytics Insight

FNDF targets large companies in developed markets outside the US, selecting and weighting its constituents based on three RAFI signature fundamental factors: sales, cash flow and dividends (plus buybacks). The fundamental approach doesn't aim to beat the market so much as redefine it away from share-price basis. Unsurprisingly, FNDF leans away from the largest firms as measured by market cap, and sector biases appear as the fund avoids riding hot sectors up and cold sectors down. It trades well in a segment not known for good liquidity, and its block liquidity is excellent, though high creation costs may sting large-scale traders. The fund also distinguishes itself with a low expense ratio in a generally expensive segment, and tracking has typically been very tight. Overall, FNDF is an affordable, easily accessed take on major companies in developed, ex-US markets.
FNDF’s underlying index changed its name from Russell Fundamental Developed ex-U.S. Large Company Index to Russell RAFI Developed ex-U.S. Large Company Index on 12/1/2016. There are no changes in index methodology and the resulting exposure.
