HEUS Factset Analytics Insight
This fund is closing. The last day of trading will be August 15, 2018. HEUS is the currency-hedged version of iShares’ developed Europe small-cap fund, IEUS. In fact, the entire holdings of HEUS are simply shares of IUES plus currency forwards. IEUS delivers excellent unhedged exposure to the space—its underlying index happens to be the same we use for our benchmark—so HEUS offers a marketlike coverage minus any gains or losses from currency moves. Marketlike exposure translates into a basket dominated by UK stocks, something you won’t find in eurozone-only peer funds. Despite being a small-cap fund, a significant portion of HEUS contains what we consider to be midcaps. HEUS’ “fund-of-fund” structure will produce tracking distortions since its NAV is set by IEUS, which trades each day long after names in the index have stopped. For this exposure and the accompanying currency hedging, HEUS charges a middling fee. The fund launched in November 2015.
