PSCH Fund Description

The PowerShares S&P SmallCap Health Care ETF tracks a cap-weighted index of small-cap health care companies taken from the S&P SmallCap 600 Index.

PSCH Factset Analytics Insight

PSCH specifically targets small-cap companies in the healthcare space. Over 3/4 of the cap-weighted fund is allocated to companies with less than $2.7B in market-cap. Its weighted average market cap is tiny compared to the broader industry. It scores low in Fit, as the fund is not representative of the broad, cap-weighted industry, which is dominated by mega-cap pharma. For more speculative investors, PSCH is potentially a great alternative play on the sector. PSCH tilts heavily toward healthcare equipment & healthcare providers, with a deep underweight to pharma. PSCH can be tricky to trade, with sizeable average spreads and often weak trading volume. For those looking to deal in creation units, however, the underlying basket should offer sufficient liquidity to keep costs down. Speaking of costs, PSCH offers a reasonable fee for a specialist fund with a unique take on the market, but holding costs are likely to be higher as the fund tends to lag its index by more than its fee.
