USDProShares Ultra Semiconductors
USD Fund Description
The ProShares Ultra Semiconductors ETF provides 2x exposure to a market-cap-weighted index that tracks the performance of large US semiconductor companies.
USD Factset Analytics Insight
As a levered product, USD is not a buy-and-hold ETF; it's a short-term tactical instrument. Like many levered funds, it promises 2x exposure only for one day. Over longer periods, returns can vary significantly from 2x exposure to its underlying index. USD investors get concentrated exposure to the biggest semiconductor companies, including Intel and Texas Instruments, which dominate the index. Investors considering USD would be wise to look past the fund's high expense ratio and focus on liquidity, which, as a short-term product, is likely a larger portion of total costs. Unfortunately, USD lacks the liquidity found in some geared sector plays. Volume is lukewarm while spreads often run wide.
