YDIVInternational Multi-Asset Diversified Income Fund
YDIV Fund Description
The First Trust International Multi-Asset Diversified Income ETF tracks an index of income focused securities primarily outside the US: equities, REITs, preferred securities, royalty trusts and utilities stocks and a fixed income ETF.
YDIV Factset Analytics Insight
YDIV’s international version of First Trust’s popular MDIV hasn’t caught on with investors. YDIV hunts for yield across multiple asset classes and maintains a certain discipline because its index resets quarterly to fixed weights. The exposure consists of 25% equity, 20% REITs, 20% preferred stock, 20% royalty trusts and utilities stocks, and 15% fixed income. All asset classes—save one—get exposure from individual securities, but like MDIV, YDIV gets its fixed-income coverage via a single ETF (iShares’ EMB). Many funds use an ETF-of-ETFs approach, and YDIV is unusual only because an ETF is solely applied to one asset class, and because the arrangement is baked into the index (rather than the fund). YDIV competes directly with another international multi-asset income ETF, Guggenheim’s HGI, but most funds in the multi-asset-income space tend toward global coverage rather than an explicit ex-US or US universe. Multi-asset income ETFs have seen significant investor interest from yield-hungry investors, but YDIV hasn’t caught on. Assets are tiny despite a competitive fee.
