How do I submit an article?
To submit an article for consideration by our editors for publication on ETF.com, you must first sign up and enter the article to your personal blog. At the bottom of your blog entry, you’ll see an option to submit to ETF.com’s editors.
ETF.com seeks the finest opinion and analysis from independent investors. It is therefore our editorial policy not to publish articles submitted by research firms or authors who are directly compensated by a company for coverage of that company’s stock, or an ETF which holds that stock. We do not publish articles written by authors who work in the field of Investor Relations.
Article Publication Guidelines
Be relevant and specific to ETFs
Write about a particular ETF, sector, or category. If you write about general market issues, tie the article to an ETF or area of ETF investing. Write about companies that are traded on U.S. exchanges. Avoid rehashes of news or other macro-economic overviews others have already covered.
Opinions matter, but make them logical and back them up
Tell the readers your opinion, but base it on rigorous analysis and present it in a clear and coherent manner. Address the strengths or weaknesses in the valuation, sector, or specific ETF.
Stay away from politics and focus on ETF market issues
We will publish macro-economic pieces that touch on political matters, but if your submission focuses mainly on politics or non-business related trends and only tangentially addresses market-related topics, it’s not suitable for ETF.com.
Disclosure is required
In the footer, and in the body if so desired, all articles must contain a disclosure statement letting the reader know if you hold any positions in the ETFs mentioned. It is also advisable to mention it if you do not hold a position.
Find a unique value proposition
A great way to get your articles noticed is to write about ETFs that get little coverage or are new on the market. If you do write on a well known ETF, bring a new perspective that others may have missed.
Brevity is better
A well written and to the point article submission is much more likely to be accepted than a long-winded essay or tirade. As a general rule, please keep your submissions to no longer than 1,000 words. Submissions that are more than 2,500 words must be broken into two or more parts for publication.
Looks and grammar matter
If an article is poorly written, it reflects badly on you and ETF.com. While we will correct a few typos, if your submission doesn’t follow generally accepted standards for written English and requires heavy copy editing, in all likelihood, we won’t publish it.
Knowing you is loving you
People prefer to read and follow contributors who show their real identity. Not only does this build credibility for your work, it helps you to establish a powerful reputation in the ETF space. That begin said, if you do prefer to publish material under a pseudonym, we will allow it but require full identity disclosure for our confidential files. Please see our Anonymous Contributors section for specifics.
