34% Rise in Schwab’s ETF Assets – Reaches $111 Billion

ETF assets at Schwab grew to $111 billion, a 34% jump in a single year. The assets include those held in third party funds combined with ETFs issued by the company.

Percentage of assets held by ETFs owned by retail investors rose by more than 61% in the last year. These investors now own 37% of all ETF assets held at Schwab. Schwab may utilize this position to popularize its U.S. Broad Market ETF (SCHB) and International Equity ETF (SCHF) offered primarily as corporate retirement plans.

Data related to reduced inflows from retail investors with investment in excess of $150,000, and trade participation beyond than 36 times in a year. Schwab attributed the fall to increased participation in non equity ETFs and government bond issues. 39% of total trade in the fourth quarter was conducted by non institutional traders.
