John Bogle is the founder and former CEO of The Vanguard Group Inc., and president of the Bogle Financial Markets Research Center. He created Vanguard in 1974 and had been associated with a predecessor company since 1951, following his graduation from Princeton University, magna cum laude in economics. The Vanguard Group comprises more than 100 mutual funds with assets totaling about $550 billion. Bogle founded the Vanguard 500 Index Fund, the first index mutual fund, in 1975.

 
 
 

Peter Borish is the senior managing director for business development for OneChicago LLC, the security futures exchange. He also is the founder and former chairman of Computer Trading Corp., formed in 1995 to manage assets in the futures markets, and was the director of research at Tudor Investments Corp. from 1986 to 1994. Borish is on the board of directors of the Futures Industry Association and is a trustee of the Institute for Financial Markets.

 

 

 
 

Gary Gastineau organized ETF Consultants LLC in May 2003 to provide specialized exchange-traded fund consulting services. Prior to joining ETF Advisors, a new ETF management firm, in May 2002, he was managing director for ETF Product Development at Nuveen Investments. He also directed product development at the American Stock Exchange for about five years. His latest book, The Exchange-Traded Funds Manual, was published in 2002.

 
 

Kelly Haughton serves as the strategic director for Russell indexes. As the leader of the development of Russell's family of U.S. equity indexes, he developed float adjustment and style methodologies that have become industry standards. Haughton led the effort to implement the use of the Russell indexes as tools in Russell's multi-manager investment product. He received an M.S. in Econometrics from the London School of Economics in 1977.

 
 

Nathan Most is widely credited as being the inventor of the exchange-traded fund (ETF), and currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the iShares Trust. He retired from the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) in 1996 after 19 years there, most recently serving as senior vice president for new product development. Born and raised in Los Angeles, and trained as a physicist at UCLA, Most has a background in commodities trading.

 
 

Steven Schoenfeld is the managing partner of Global Index Strategies, a consulting firm, and the editor of the book, Active Index Investing, to be published by John Wiley & Sons in spring 2004. Schoenfeld is founder of www.indexUniverse.com and a Senior Research Fellow at the Duke University Global Capital Markets Center. He has served as chief investment officer of Active Index Advisors and as a managing director of Barclays Global Investors.

 
 

Oscar Silver is cofounder of Passive Momentum Asset Advisors, which manages $25 million in client portfolios using the firm's proprietary methodology. He owned and operated WIEZ-FM, in Oneonta, N.Y., from 1978 to 1982. In 1983 he joined M.L. Stern as a municipal bond specialist, later working at Paine Webber, until returning to broadcasting in 1992 with a daily radio feature, The Business Reporter, heard on more than 25 stations nationwide.

 
 

Brad Zigler formerly served as head of marketing, education and research for the Pacific Exchange and Barclays Global Investors. Zigler is a founding member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals Education Committee, and has contributed to theStreet.com, CBS MarketWatch, Institutional Investor, Financial Planning, CRB Trader, Mutual Funds and Registered Rep.
