The Fidelity Managed Futures ETF (FFUT) won Best New Alternatives ETF of the 2026 ETF.com Awards. The strategy seeks capital appreciation through its trend following strategy using futures contracts. The fund takes long and short positions via futures across commodities, equities, fixed income, and currencies, but can also invest directly. As prices rise, FFUT may take long positions to harness gains, while also benefiting in market drawdowns through short positions to capitalize on losses. Additionally, the fund's advisor may use quantitative analysis beyond trend following signals to determine some positions in pursuit of the strategy's goals.

The managed futures space is one that garnered significant attention in 2022 when traditional portfolios suffered broadly. Many managed futures ETFs notched significant gains from their ability to short asset classes, as well as their more rapid response to changing market signals compared to traditional peers. That said, it's remained a strategy still fairly relegated to the fringes, particularly as managed futures ETFs largely struggled in ongoing market volatility and noise in recent years.

Fidelity's entry into the space moves the needle significantly on the narrative for these strategies, and could unlock greater institutional adoption. It's little surprise that FFUT caught investor attention and secured the win in an increasingly competitive category as investors look to diversify portfolios.
