On the surface, this looks like just another entry into the short-term bond market, a competitor to funds like the Vanguard Short-Term Bond Fund (NYSEArca: BSV), any of the iShares short term bond funds (NYSEArca: CSJ, SHY, SHV), or something super short like the SPDR Barclays Capital 1-3 Month Treasury ETF (NYSEArca: BIL).

WisdomTree Registers New Inflation-Linked ETF

 

WisdomTree Trust has registered with the SEC a new exchange-traded fund that seeks to give investors long-term returns above the rate of inflation.

To do so, the WisdomTree Real Return Fund (NYSEArca: RRF) will invest in inflation-linked securities such as U.S. Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS), bonds and commodities instruments.

RRF will be the newest member in an expanding group of ETFs that seeks to capitalize on investors' rising fears of inflation.

CPI: New Inflation-Hedging ETF Launches

 

IndexIQ launched a new exchange-traded fund today designed to capitalize on investors’ fear of inflation.

The new IQ CPI Inflation Hedged ETF (NYSEArca: CPI) is designed to provide a “real return” of 2-3 percent above the rolling 12-month Consumer Price Index.

 SSgA Debuts Second-Ever VRDO Fund

State Street Global Advisors launched the world’s second variable rate demand obligation ETF, the SPDR S&P VRDO Municipal Bond ETF (NYSE Arca: VRD), on Sept. 24. It tracks the performance of the S&P National AMT-Free Municipal VRDO Index, which holds VRDOs issued by U.S. states, local governments and agencies. The fund charges 0.20 percent in annual expenses.
