India equities stole the show in a week when U.S. equities bled value.
A number of India equities ETFs were among the week's top-performing funds, as the market reacted to what has been deemed positive government measures to address the country's fiscal problems.
Recent gains in India's currency, the rupee, were an added shot in the arm for U.S. investors compared with the returns local investors have seen on the same equities, IndexUniverse Analyst Ugo Egbunike recently pointed out in the weekly "FX Impact" report.
In the last week ended Thursday, Sept. 27, six out of the top 10 best-performing exchange-traded products were linked to India, with funds such as the EGShares India Consumer ETF (NYSEArca: INCO) leading the charge, with gains of more than 9 percent. The iShares MSCI India Small Cap Index Fund (NYSEArca: SMIN) rallied nearly 8 percent in the past week.
The gains came as the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 111 points, or 0.81 percent, in the same five-day period.
On the flip side, the Global X Aluminum ETF (NYSEArca: ALUM) was one of the worst-performing funds in the week, dropping 7.5 percent. ALUM is one of the four ETFs Global X is shutting down on Oct. 18 due to the strategy's inability to attract assets. As of Thursday, Sept. 28, ALUM had only $2.26 million in assets.
The solid-state computer-drives-focused Etracs ISE SSD ETN (NYSEArca: SSDD) was the single worst-performing fund last week, bleeding nearly 8 percent of value.
