Time To Hang Up On Global Telecom ETFs?

August 13, 2012

Telecom ETFs remain a good source of yields, but investors might want to reconsider some global names that are lagging the performance of domestic telecom giants such as Verizon and AT&T, according to an article on Benzinga.

The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Telecommunications Sector Index Fund (NYSEArca: IYZ)) and the Vanguard Telecom Services ETF (NYSEArca: VOX), two funds with heavy allocation to U.S. phone companies, gained 14.5 and 14.3 percent this year, respectively.

By comparison, global-in-scope iShares S&P Global Telecommunications Sector Index Fund (NYSEArca: IXP) and the SPDR S&P International Telecommunications Sector ETF (NYSEArca: IST) saw an increase of 8.0 and 0.13 percent, respectively, according to Benzinga.
