[Global X](https://www.etf.com/topics/global-x) launched the [**Global X Treasury Bond Enhanced Income ETF (TLTX)**](/tltx) Wednesday, offering investors exposure to long-duration Treasury bonds combined with a covered call options strategy.

The new fund addresses investor demand for enhanced income from Treasury securities while managing interest rate sensitivity, according to the company's [announcement](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/global-x-launches-new-us-treasury-bond-etf-providing-enhanced-income-potential-to-a-time-tested-asset-class-302506264.html). [Treasury bonds](/topics/treasury) have gained appeal as yields reach levels not seen in over a decade, but longer-duration securities carry heightened volatility risks.

TLTX seeks to capture higher yields from long-duration Treasurys while writing weekly call options to generate premium income and cushion volatility, according to [insights](https://www.globalxetfs.com/articles/introducing-the-global-x-treasury-bond-enhanced-income-etf-tltx) from Robert Scrudato, director of options and income research at Global X ETFs. The fund targets approximately 20-year duration exposure and plans monthly distributions of roughly 75% of collected options premiums.

## TLTX Treasury Fund Strategy Details

The fund invests primarily in U.S. Treasurys, [Treasury STRIPS](https://www.treasurydirect.gov/marketable-securities/strips/) and ETFs holding these securities, according to the press release. Global X writes weekly call options on Treasury ETFs at a notional value equal to roughly half the fund's duration exposure, maintaining some upside participation while collecting premiums.

"TLTX seeks to address a common need for investors: income generation with thoughtful risk management," said Pedro Palandrani, head of product research and development at Global X, according to the announcement. Rising interest rates and economic uncertainty can influence Treasury values, particularly at the long end of the curve, he noted.

The strategy aims to monetize the volatility characteristic of long-duration Treasury instruments, according to Scrudato. Higher volatility typically correlates with increased options premiums, creating an opportunity for enhanced income generation.

## Active Management Approach

TLTX employs an active management team with discretion over options strike prices and coverage ratios, according to Scrudato. While the fund systematically writes weekly options rather than longer-dated contracts to capture accelerated time decay, managers can adjust moneyness and timing to seek advantageous pricing.

The fund maintains notional options coverage equivalent to approximately half its duration exposure rather than total asset value, according to Scrudato. This approach allows TLTX to capture roughly half the upside potential when interest rates decline while collecting options premiums.

When rates rise, the fund remains exposed to the full downside of Treasury positions, with options premiums providing partial offset, according to Scrudato.
