# Invesco ETF Closures Boost 2020 Number
2020 will likely rival 2018 for number of closures.

Closures have exploded in 2020, with Invesco completing 42 fund shutdowns late last week after [announcing them in December 2019](https://www.etf.com/sections/daily-etf-watch/invesco-shuttering-42-etfs-1b-assets). After Invesco’s multiple acquisitions in recent years, the changes likely reflect an attempt to streamline its lineup and eliminate redundancies.
At the time of the announcement, eight of the targeted ETFs had more than $50 million each in assets under management.

[Invesco](https://www.etf.com/topics/invesco-etfs)’s dramatic changes are similar to those of Barclays’ iPath arm in April 2018, when the ETN issuer shuttered 50 products, the largest mass closure of its kind. It boosted ETF closures that year to an all-time high. Invesco’s action could do the same for 2020.
