At the end of 1999, Banc of America Securities launched the third index in
its commerical mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) index family.

Goldman Sachs Group has joined rivals Salomon Smith Barney and Lehman Brothers
in offering debt securities linked to the performance of an Internet index.

The brains behind the Isdex, one of the earliest and most popular Internet
indexes, is now out on his own. Steve Harmon, the Isdex’s creator, left
Mecklermedia, now Internet.com Corp., last July and has since started his own
online investment management firm, to which he has decided to give the name
e-har-mon.com Inc.

The Toronto Stock Exchange and Barclays Global Investors Canada completed the
merger of the Toronto 35 Index Participation Fund (TIPS 35) and the TSE 100
Index Participation Fund (TIPS 100) with the iUnits S&P/TSE 60 Index Participation
Fund (i60 Fund) after the close of the market on March 6.

It’s not uncommon for local stock exchanges to be dominated by certain stocks.
Nokia is a famous example, constituting roughly three quarters of Finland’s
total market value.

FTSE International, one of the world’s major index providers, is reshaping its indexes and itself as it prepares for what it expects to be a dramatically different financial world in the future.

Fortune magazine isn’t the only new entry to hop on the Internet index
train. At least one more major Wall Street firm is piling on.
