John Bogle is the founder and former CEO of The Vanguard Group Inc., and president of the Bogle Financial Markets Research Center. He created Vanguard in 1974 and had been associated with a predecessor company since 1951, following his graduation from Princeton University, magna cum laude in economics. The Vanguard Group comprises more than 100 mutual funds with assets totaling about $550 billion. Bogle founded the Vanguard 500 Index Fund, the first index mutual fund, in 1975.
Nancy Calkins is the Senior Investment Officer for Public Equity at the Washington State Investment Board (WSIB). Her responsibilities include oversight of the equity portfolios in Washington State's defined benefit plan and worker's compensation insurance funds. She has authored articles for the Financial Analyst Journal, Journal of Pension Plan Investing and Plan Sponsor. Calkins is the Chair of Pensions West, and serves on the advisory boards for MSCI and FTSE.
Gary Gastineau organized ETF Consultants LLC in May 2003 to provide specialized exchange-traded fund consulting services. He joined ETF Advisors, a new ETF management firm, in May 2002, after serving as managing director for ETF product development at Nuveen Investments. He also directed product development at the American Stock Exchange for approximately five years. His book, The Exchange-Traded Funds Manual, was published in February 2002 by John Wiley & Sons.
John Serrapere has been advising investors since 1986. He currently consults family offices and other investors seeking alternative investment options. Mr. Serrapere was formerly a principal of Rydex Leveraged Hedges LLC in Rockville, Md., where he designed registered and nonregistered products. Serrapere has been published in Corporate Finance Review and The Retirement Planning Journal, and has presented for Information Management Network.
Anthony Scamardella is managing director of marketing for the New York Board of Trade. Scamardella enjoyed a twenty year trading career as a vice president /chief dealer of foreign exchange for Chase Manhattan bank and WestDeutsche Landesbank. He received his business degree in statistical analysis from Baruch College, CUNY and continues to trade and invest using technical analysis.
W. Scott Simon is one of the founders of Prudent Investor Advisors, a Registered Investment Advisory firm. He is a recognized expert on fiduciary investment conduct, modern prudent investing and investment principles and is one of the few fiduciary experts who is both an attorney and a Certified Financial Planner . Simon is the author of two books, The Prudent Investor Act: A Guide to Understanding (2002) and Index Mutual Funds: Profiting from an Investment Revolution (1998).
Timothy Thompson founded Value-Added Research & Management in 2003 as an independent investment advisor dedicated to researching and managing exchange-traded funds. Tim has more than sixteen years of asset allocation management experience with PIMCO/Oppenheimer Capital and Frank Russell Trust Company. He earned a B.A. degree from Yale College and an M.B.A. in finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Brad Zigler formerly served as head of marketing, education and research for the Pacific Exchange and Barclays Global Investors. Zigler is a founding member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals Education Committee, and has contributed to,CBS MarketWatch, Institutional Investor, Financial Planning, CRB Trader, Mutual Funds and Registered Rep.
