Will natural gas from the U.S. make it to Europe some day?

Natural Gas - Reserves and Production v2

  • Concerns about natural gas supplies are rising as tensions between Europe and Russia increase.
  • Four countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) have formally requested natural gas supplies from the U.S.
  • House and Senate energy committees are meeting regarding whether the U.S. should ease restriction to allow LNG exports to Europe.
  • Because natural gas is more expensive in Europe than the U.S., easing export restrictions would put upward price pressure on U.S. natural gas.
  • Nigeria is among the countries that has sufficient reserves to significantly increase production. The Global X Nigeria ETF (NGE | F-53) is up 2 percent this week.
  • Natural Gas ETFs: United States Natural Gas (UNG | A-78); iShares U.S. Oil & Gas Exploration & Production (IEO | A-76); Market Vectors Unconventional Oil & Gas (FRAK | B-22); VelocityShares 3X Long Natural Gas ETN (UGAZ).
