131 ETFs in the U.S. with $155.2 billion in assets.

London/San Francisco - February 5, 2004.   As of January 30 there where 296 exchange-traded funds with 357 listings, managed by 36 managers on 28 exchanges around the world, according to a new report penned by Deborah Fuhr, head of ETF research at Morgan Stanley. The U.S. is the leader in terms of number of products and assets under management (AUM) with 131 ETFs with $155.2 billion in assets, followed by Europe with 105 ETFs and $22.3 billion, and next Japan with 17 ETFs and $28.02 billion.

The average daily U.S. volume traded is up 24.4% to $11 billion, and in terms of average daily volume of shares there has been a 25.6% increase to 216 million shares, according to Morgan Stanley.

During January, seventeen new ETFs were launched - fifteen in the U.S., one in Europe, and one in Israel -  while two ETFs, one in Korea and one in Japan, were delisted.
