EEV Factset Analytics Insight
EEV is effectively a one-day bet against EEM—the popular emerging-markets ETF from iShares—with a leverage factor of 2 baked in. The fund promises daily (-2x) exposure to the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, which covers roughly 85% of the market cap in the emerging-markets universe. Note that it's also covering Korea and Taiwan, which some investors may not consider emerging markets. As with all daily leveraged and inverse products, EEV is designed as a trading vehicle, not as part of a longer-term asset allocation. In fact, anyone holding the fund for more than a day must adjust their exposure daily in order to avoid the effects of path dependency and positional decay. The good news is EEV gets good daily volume with tight spreads, so it should satisfy those looking to make intraday bets. Although EEV is expensive to hold, like all leveraged ETFs, the fund's target audience won't be holding it for long enough to be concerned about the high price tag.
