EFAD Fund Description

EFAD tracks an equally weighted broad-market index of developed-market companies that have raised their dividend for each of the past 10 years.

EFAD Factset Analytics Insight

EFAD offers exposure to a portfolio of developed-market companies with a few twists. First, the fund is equally weighted, which tilts the portfolio toward midcap companies. Second, EFAD screens for companies that have increased their dividend for each of the past 10 years—a filter that tilts the fund toward maturing companies. EFAD will have to prove itself as its 50 bp fee is significantly higher than competing funds that charge as little as 8 bps. EFAD excludes Canada and tilts hugely toward the UK. Despite its dividend growth screen, EFAD isn’t necessarily a “high yield” play on developed markets—its yield lags our benchmark. Investors seeking a more traditional dividend fund might instead consider DWM, which weights its portfolio by dividends. EFAD has yet to catch on with investors judging from tiny AUM and thin trading volume.
