EFU Factset Analytics Insight
EFU provides daily geared inverse (-2x) exposure to the MSCI EAFE Index by holding swaps on the iShares MSCI EAFE ETF (EFA). The fund is designed to appreciate when the index falls. The underlying index has concentrated exposures to Japan and the UK (over 40% combined), making EFU a leveraged bet against Japan and the UK at its core. The fund is also a pseudo-competitor to the iPath Short Enhanced MSCI EAFE Index ETN (MFSA), albeit one with a more straightforward fee and cost structure. EFU charges 95 bps and has very little in AUM. With relatively low daily trading volume and spreads higher than one would like, EFU’s on-screen liquidity is quite poor for a tactical tool.
