FBGX Factset Analytics Insight
FBGX provides leveraged exposure to an index of US large-cap growth stocks that's particularly heavy on technology and consumer cyclical firms. Unlike most geared products, the note resets its leverage only quarterly. There is a fee at each reset. This strategy of quarterly resets mutes the effects of compounding and path dependency that plague other leveraged funds, but it also means that the note's effective leverage can float away from 2X in between resets. It also means that while the fund is easier to hold over time than other leveraged products, those holding costs will be a more serious consideration than for comparable single-day leverage products. Liquidity is middling, with occasionally wide spreads, and trading volume is low for an ETN with such a large asset base, but that's because FBGX is a 'bespoke' product, created for Fisher Asset Management and its clients. The notes are unadvertised—lacking even a website—because they aren’t intended for individual investors. Also consider FLGE, a similar series of notes (offered by UBS rather than Credit Suisse) tracking the same index.
