FXZ Fund Description

FXZ tracks an index of US basic materials companies that are selected and weighted using a proprietary strategy focused on growth and value metrics.

FXZ Factset Analytics Insight

FXZ utilizes a proprietary strategy to pick the 'best' US basic materials firms. This minimalist approach means the fund is more concentrated than our benchmark, holding fewer than half as many names in its basket. The fund also tilts away from large-caps to the mid- and small-cap end of the cap range. The result is major sector tilts, elevated risk at times, and—to date—no consistent outperformance. FXZ’s expense ratio is higher than the norm, and loose tracking means that realized costs have generally been even higher. The good news is that most investors can access the fund easily, with reasonable daily trading volume and tight spreads. Block liquidity is strong, offering straightforward creation/redemption for larger investors.
