GRES Fund Description

GRES tracks a multi-factor-weighted index of global natural resource companies selected based on momentum. It also includes short exposure to US and international equity markets.

GRES Factset Analytics Insight

GRES offers a portfolio of companies that operate in the natural resources space, with an equity-market hedge. The fund defines eight cap-weighted industry buckets, and then weights each bucket by a combination of price momentum and valuation changes, resulting in a portfolio that looks different even before its hedges are taken into account. GRES assigns 90% weight to its portfolio of natural resource firms, holds another 30% in short-term Treasurys, and then shorts two ETFs tracking US and developed-market equities, weighted at 10% each. As such, GRES may underperform its peers when the global equity market does well, but has the potential to outperform in down markets. Unsurprisingly, it’s a poor fit to our benchmark.GRES is an expensive offering in an expensive segment, and holding costs can be unpredictable as it struggles to track its index. Liquidity is fairly thin, though spreads are reasonable for small investors. It trades well in blocks, so large investors will likely find a fair price if they shop around for liquidity providers.

GRES MSCI ESG Analytics Insight

IQ Global Resources ETF has an MSCI ESG Fund Rating of A based on a score of 5.85 out of 10. The MSCI ESG Fund Rating measures the resiliency of portfolios to long-term risks and opportunities arising from environmental, social, and governance factors. These companies may be more resilient to disruptions arising from ESG events.
