IBB Fund Description

IBB tracks the performance of a market-cap-weighted index of US biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies listed on the NASDAQ.

IBB Factset Analytics Insight

IBB is known for providing of the US biotech companies that are exclusively listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market. The index includes companies of all capitalizations but is market-cap-weighted, includes thus producing a basket that heavily favors large-caps and concentrates exposure in top 10 names. The fund’s emphasis on pharmaceuticals makes it to differ from some peer funds and its segment benchmark. Since the fund can only hold companies traded on the NASDAQ, IBB may miss opportunities in companies traded on the NYSE, which several of the other biotech funds are eligible to hold. Individual holdings are subject to capping requirements, 8% on the five largest constituents and 4% for the remaining. The index is rebalanced quarterly and reconstituted annually.
