ISEM
Invesco RAFI Strategic Emerging Markets ETFISEM Fund Description
ISEM tracks an index of stocks from large firms in emerging markets. The index determines firm size by fundamental metrics and also screens by "quality" metrics. Stocks are weighted by firm size.
ISEM Factset Analytics Insight
ISEM offers two main distinctions in its exposure to stocks from large firms in emerging markets. First, it ignores market cap as the primary means of determining whether a company is large or small. Instead, it ranks by fundamental metrics: revenue, operating cash flow, dividends & buybacks, and book value. (Note that with REITS funds from operations is used instead of cash flow and total asset instead of book value.) Second, ISEM screens for “quality”, using the equally-weighted average of the current levels and historical growth (five years) of sales/assets. The fund is float-adjusted weighted by the same fundamental size metrics used in selection. As such, it will take a somewhat contrarian approach relative to cap-weighted funds. During annual rebalance, ISEM will take profits from gainers and add to losers.
