JJU iPath Series B Bloomberg Aluminum Subindex Total Return ETN
What is JJU?
JJU tracks an index consisting of a single futures contract on aluminum, rolled every other month.
JJU Factset Analytics Insight
JJU tracks an index of aluminum futures that rolls into new contracts every other month. The methodology weights the contracts by liquidity (2/3) and US dollar-weighted production (1/3). Contracts are tracked starting two months from maturity and held until shortly before expiration, which differs from a front-month strategy. Investors avoid a K-1 at tax time due to the ETN wrapper, but also accept some counterparty risk from the issuer, Barclays. JJU replaced an older ETN with the same ticker. The newer, series B note tracks the same index and avoids path dependency issues that. It also includes a call provision. The new version traded under the ticker JJUB until Nov. 16, 2018.
