KBA Factset Analytics Insight
KBA offers a twist on US-listed physical A-share exposure. By definition, A-share ETFs hold stocks listed in Shanghai or Shenzhen. KBA also excludes small-caps. Stocks are weighted by the portion of market cap that’s publically available to foreign investors. KBA’s twist: It only holds firms added to the broader MSCI Emerging Markets index, a “partial and progressive” transition per MSCI. As such, KBA’s portfolio may vary from that of other cap-weighted A-share funds, which are typically heavy on banks and insurance firms and light on tech. Prior to December 26, 2017, KBA tracked an A-shares index without the MSCI EM inclusion constraint (MSCI China A International Index).
