MXI Fund Description

MXI tracks a market-cap-weighted index of global materials companies.

MXI Factset Analytics Insight

MXI is a popular basic materials fund that is reasonable to trade. While its small portfolio is too narrow to make it a great Fit to the market, it captures the space reasonably well sector-by-sector, and its chief departure from the benchmark is in its large-cap tilt and heavy exposure to the US. Like the space it's capturing, MXI is a bit top-heavy, and the big multinationals that dominate its top ten holdings comprise roughly a third of the fund's portfolio. Liquidity is adequate, but not ideal. Larger investors should have an easier time with block execution thanks to terrific underlying liquidity. MXI is also a markedly Efficient fund, charging a reasonable fee and lagging its index by far less thanks to securities lending revenue.
