PFXF Fund Description

PFXF tracks an index comprised of preferred securities and securities that the index provider deems to be functionally equivalent. Securities issued by financial firms are excluded.

PFXF Factset Analytics Insight

PFXF purposefully excludes the dominant financial sector to deliver a truly alternate exposure to US preferred stocks—with an important exception: the fund includes REITs. The designation of REITs as non-financials—and therefore their inclusion in the portfolio—is crucial, as REITs (which we consider financials) make up a huge chunk of the exposure per the issuer. The fund trades well, with high daily volume and modest spreads. The hard-to-source nature of the underlying portfolio, however, means that larger investors may encounter challenges when it comes to block trades. PFXF charges a low fee for a preferred-stock ETF, and its true holding costs tend be far lower, making it a very Efficient option.
