PICK Fund Description

PICK tracks a market-cap-weighted index of global metals mining firms.

PICK Factset Analytics Insight

PICK's gold-and-silver-free approach to the mining segment has found favor with investors. The fund's index, the MSCI ACWI Select Metals & Mining Producers Ex Gold & Silver IMI, excludes gold and silver mining firms like Barrick Gold and Goldcorp. This leads to larger allocations to steel and integrated mining companies, among others. In addition, PICK's underlying index is broader than our benchmark, including industries like coal, which we place in the energy sector. Pumped-up weightings to the largest firms—BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto—give the fund a large tilt.PICK is fairly easy to trade, with sizeable daily volume, though spreads can be significant at times. Block liquidity is excellent for larger traders. PICK charges a reasonable fee and tends to lag its index by even less, so investors should see low holding costs overall. In all, PICK offers an interesting take on the space for investors who want to carve precious metals out of their global metals and mining exposure.
