PXE Fund Description

PXE tracks an index of U.S. energy exploration and production companies selected and weighted by growth and value metrics.

PXE Factset Analytics Insight

PXE attempts to pick winners in oil & gas exploration & production by following a complex tiered weighting methodology. The result is a fund that not only has a small-cap tilt, but interestingly, is more conservative than our benchmark. PXE's selection universe is broader than our benchmark's, allowing the fund to dip into other industries such as integrated oil & gas. However, PXE charges a hefty 65 bps for what is neither a strong exploration & production portfolio nor a great broad-based energy portfolio. PXE also has trouble tracking its index, lagging it by as much as 151 bps over one 1-year holding period in the past two years. Last, liquidity is not great with median daily trading volume of about $800k.
