RING Fund Description

RING tracks a market-cap-weighted index of companies that generate revenue primarily from gold mining.

RING Factset Analytics Insight

RING is the cheapest fund in the segment, and tracks the same cap-weighted index of global gold mining companies that we chose as our segment benchmark. It's naturally a good Fit to our view of the global gold market, with about 90% of its portfolio in companies primarily engaged in the production of gold and the remainder in firms whose mining operations are diversified across other metals. The firms at the top of the industry—Barrick, Newmont and Goldcorp—make up roughly 1/3 of its portfolio, and over 60% of fund assets are in the top 10 holdings. Despite this top-end concentration, investors get exposure to some higher beta small-caps as well. The fund's low cost and broad exposure are attractive, but a modest asset tally provides little liquidity, meaning it is expensive to access.
