RTHVanEck Vectors Retail ETF
RTH Fund Description
RTH tracks a market-cap-weighted index of the 25 largest US-listed companies that derive most of their revenue from retail.
RTH Factset Analytics Insight
Market Vectors' RTH provides excellent coverage of US retailers, but the fund's claim of global scope requires us to compare it to a global benchmark, where its Fit falls short. RTH began tracking a new index in December 2011, but still retains the concentrated exposure typical of its HOLDRS roots. Investors looking for exposure to global retailers like H&M won't find it in RTH, but they will find concentrated exposure to US retail giants that dominate worldwide: Walmart, Amazon, Costco and the like. The fund's exposure makes it less risky than our global benchmark, making RTH a relatively safe place to get exposure to the retail space. The fund boasts ample liquidity for traders at any scale, with strong daily volume and narrow spreads, while the underlying basket is easy to trade in volume without causing prices to move. RTH charges a middling fee for its segment, but tracking is solid and the fund tends to lag its index by only slightly more than its expense ratio.
