TIPiShares TIPS Bond ETF
TIP Fund Description
TIP tracks a market-value-weighted index of US Treasury inflation-protected securities with at least one year remaining in maturity.
TIP Factset Analytics Insight
Launched in late 2003, TIP had a three-and-a-half-year head start to accumulate assets before its first ETF competitor stepped onto the TIPS scene. TIP’s first-mover advantage has set in motion a virtuous cycle, whereby its abundant assets generate tremendous trading volume that keep trading costs low and, in turn, lure even more assets—despite charging a higher headline fee. (TIP's excellent tracking, however, makes holding costs lower than the fee suggests.) TIP and our benchmark have almost identical key portfolio statistics despite slight variations in maturity distribution. Ultimately, TIP holds a broad and diversified portfolio of TIPS in an extremely liquid and efficient package. Competitor SCHP tracks the same index with a lower holding cost but lower trading volume.
