USRT Factset Analytics Insight
USRT offers exposure to many types of REITs at tiny holding cost. The market-cap weighted ETF primarily focuses on health care REITs, residential REITs and retail REITs. Infrastructure REITs, mortgage REITs, and timber REITs are excluded. The fund made material changes on Nov. 3 2016. It changed its ticker (from FTY), name (from iShares Real Estate 50 ETF) and underlying index (from FTSE NAREIT Real Estate 50 Index). The old index held fewer names and included some REIT types that are now out-of-bounds. The ETF also radically slashed its fee and now competes head-to-head on holding costs with the segment’s cheapest funds. Still, some peers may have lower all-in costs once trading expense are included.
