XSW
SPDR S&P Software & Services ETFXSW Fund Description
XSW tracks an equal-weighted index of software & services companies, as defined by GICS.
XSW Factset Analytics Insight
The software industry is extremely top-heavy and concentrated so any ETFs providing exposure to the industry have to address these challenges. XSW does so by broadening its mandate to include services firms and then equal-weights its portfolio to reduce concentration in the top industry companies. Ultimately, XSW delivers on its mandate to invest in both software and services, and emphasizes the latter. Its equal weighting produces tilts toward smaller, growth-oriented companies. For investors interested in its unique basket, XSW charges one of the lowest fees in its segment. However, since its inception in late 2011, it has yet to accumulate much of an asset base or much trading volume, so trade carefully.
