The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) pulled in more than $4 billion in new assets Wednesday as the S&P 500 index closed at a record-high for a second straight day, bringing the exchange-traded fund's total assets under management to $636 billion, according to etf.com daily fund flows data.

The influx of capital boosted the former No.1 ETF by assets under management back to its perch atop the ETF hill, after losing its position earlier in the week to Vanguard’s S&P 500 ETF (VOO).

Among other top inflows, the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) attracted $2.6 billion, while the SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added $756 million. The ProShares Ultra S&P 500 (SSO) saw inflows of $269 million, representing a 4.4% increase in assets.

On the outflows side, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) experienced outflows of $628.8 million, while the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) saw $452.7 million exit the fund. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) recorded outflows of $371 million.

U.S. equity funds led all categories with over $7.9 billion in new assets, while commodity ETFs added $716 million. International equity funds pulled in $1.4 billion. Meanwhile, leveraged ETFs saw outflows of $131 million and all ETFs recorded total net inflows of $11.9 billion for the day.
