On Aug. 1,  Emerging Global Advisors' EGShares EM Strategic Opportunities ETF (EMDD | F-53) switched its ticker from EMSO to EMDD. The move is somewhat curious because the fund changed its name and ticker from the EGShares Emerging Markets Domestic Demand ETF (EMDD) to the EGShares Emerging Markets Strategic Opportunities ETF (EMSO) as of March 1 of this year. Now it seems to have returned to its former ticker, but retained its new name.

The fund originally launched as the EGShares Emerging Markets Domestic Demand ETF trading under the ticker EMDD in August 2012. EMDD has just $12 million in assets under management.

It’s not clear why Emerging Global would change the fund’s ticker and then switch it back again, but perhaps investors were confused by the first change. Despite the name and ticker changes, the fund has consistently focused on emerging market stocks with strong ties to domestic demand.
