Odds & Ends: An Avalanche of Fund Launches

ETF launches came fast and furious this week with 19 launches across multiple asset classes.  

Defiance ETFs launched the first zero-day options exchange-traded fund, the Defiance Nasdaq-100 Enhanced Option Income ETF (QQQY), which generates income by selling ultra-short-term options. 

State Street launched the SPDR Portfolio S&P Sector Neutral Dividend ETF (SPDG), a sector-neutral dividend stock fund. It’s unusual as most dividend funds significantly overweight dividend-heavy sectors like utilities and real estate investment trusts. 

As the war in Ukraine grinds on, Global X launched the Global X Defense Tech ETF (SHLD), to take advantage of the rising defense spending across the globe. 

Also, this week, Franklin Templeton Investments filed for a spot bitcoin ETF showing the popularity of the idea even with long-established financial firms. Meanwhile, Brazilian crypto firm Hashdex filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to open a combined spot- and futures-based ether ETF.
