Odds & Ends: Launches Offer Plenty of Choices to Yield-Hungry Investors

This week was chock full of fund launches targeted at investors looking for yield.  

YieldMax launched another single-stock options ETF on Tuesday, this time focused on chipmaker AMD. Defiance launched another options-income strategy with the ticker “JEPY,” similar to the ticker of the blockbuster option-income fund from JPMorgan, the JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI). 

Invesco launched another three bond ETFs on Wednesday, while BlackRock launched five Treasury Inflation Protected Securities, or TIPS, bond ETFs on Thursday. 

New Yield-Rich Industry ETFs

Yield-rich industries also saw launches this week as VanEck launched an ETF focused on office real estate investment trusts on Thursday, and Roundhill Investments launched a liquified natural gas ETF on Friday. 

Also, this week, Grayscale Investments took a new tack when it filed to launch an ether futures. Grayscale filed under the Securities Act of 1933, which would let the fund invest in commodities, whereas most ETFs are filed under the Investment Company Act of 1940, which limits funds to investing in securities.  

An issue that’s held up ether ETF filings is that it is unclear what kind of asset ether is, as the Securities and Exchange Commission hasn't said whether it considers ether to be a security or a commodity.
