The 2023 etf.com Awards event on Tuesday is set to honor the most influential, innovative and impactful players in the exchange-traded fund universe. Just in time to mark the 30th year of the first U.S.-listed ETF, the Awards will bring together impactful players in the ETF space to celebrate exciting milestones in our industry as well as the history of etf.com.

This year will mark etf.com’s 9th year hosting this industry-leading event, which is taking place May 2, 2023, and held in person in the heart of the world’s financial capital, New York City. The awards will be presented at Manhattan’s Tribeca Rooftop in front of 250 guests from across the ETF industry.

In addition to the Awards' return, etf.com celebrates the launch of its new website and branding launched in April.

“The etf.com Awards has been such an integral part of our industry for so many years that we are honored to bring it back in 2023,” said Sean Allocca, editor-in-chief of etf.com. “It’s truly a privilege to help recognize and commemorate all the iconic people that have shaped the ETF world.”

History of etf.com

This week’s Awards event marks another milestone for etf.com, which launched in 2001 when Jim Wiandt founded IndexFunds.com and purchased the Journal of Indexes from Dow Jones. In 2003, he was brought into a company called IndexUniverse, originally founded by Steve Schoenfeld in 2001, and the online properties of IndexUnvierse.com and IndexUniverse.com/Europe came on to the scene.

A major turning point for the company came less than 10 years ago, when Wiandt acquired the etf.com domain name and rebranded the entire company under that moniker. The move powered up the company’s brand recognition and propelled the business into the mainstream.

For a time, the business model centered on editorial content before expanding into events, data analytics and educational content. The data business would build from the ground up into the first set of publicly available ETF data and tools that would later be sold to FactSet. That data set still currently powers etf.com data analytics and fund reports.

Today’s etf.com

In 2021, London-based, globally active ETFS Capital, a strategic investment company led by ETF pioneer Graham Tuckwell, acquired ETF.com.

In 2023, ETF.com rebranded into etf.com and launched its new look and website design with upgraded data tools, as well as educational content that investors, advisors and industry insiders have come to expect from etf.com.

The 2023 etf.com Awards promises to highlight the best of today’s ETFs, as well as a look into the bright future to be shared with the entire ETF industry, as well as the advisors and investors that rely on exchange-traded funds.
