In this episode of Advisor Insider, etf.com Wealth Management Editor Jeff Benjamin talks with Stuart Chaussee about his extensive research and writing about buffer ETFs.

Chaussee, a financial advisor based in Beverly Hills, Calif., published an easy-to-follow guidebook on buffer strategies. He identifies the advantages and disadvantages of applying buffers that limit downside and cap upside performance.

“Most advisors will use buffer ETFs as a sleeve of an overall portfolio,” he said, acknowledging these strategies are best suited for investors in or near retirement.

Chaussee also sees buffer ETFs are a proxy for fixed income in certain instances.
