IECS Factset Analytics Insight
IECS is part of an iShares evolved sector suite that redefines the US market, using data science and text analysis to group similar companies. The fund specifically provides exposure to the consumer staples sector. Rather than analyzing a company’s current products or revenue, which are backward-looking, this approach looks to be more responsive in identifying current and future key business drivers for the consumer staples sector. While the sector suite as a whole is market-cap weighted, companies can have their weight split between two or more sectors which reflect their multi-dimensional nature. Sector assignments are determined by the use of relevant terminology in public filings. IECS includes companies of all market capitalizations, and is reconstituted quarterly.
