What is IMLP?
IMLP tracks a market-cap-weighted index of US-listed MLPs and limited liability corporations that have tax treatment similar to MLPs.
IMLP Factset Analytics Insight
IMLP tracks a broad, cap-weighted index of MLPs. The index uses volume weighted average pricing for the levels of each constituent (rather than last price). It employs a modified market cap-weighting scheme wherein no stock can have a weight of more than 15% in the index and all stocks with a weight greater than 4.5%, based on float-adjusted market cap, are not allowed, as a group, to exceed 45% of the index. Modifications are made to market cap weights, if required, to reflect available float, while applying single stock and concentration limit capping to the constituents. Larger investors should consider working with liquidity providers or the issuer's capital markets desk. As with all MLP ETNs, the tax benefits of individual MLPs (tax deferral) are not available to holders of IMLP. In addition, IMLP investors are creditors to Barclays Bank, and the coupon payments received are treated as ordinary income.
