IYM Fund Description

IYM tracks a broad, market-cap-weighted index of US basic materials companies that includes raw materials such as metals, chemicals and forestry products.

IYM Factset Analytics Insight

IYM is a popular, straightforward basic materials fund that tracks a vanilla market-cap-weighted index. It provides simple exposure to a small list of well-known basic materials firms, but also dips into other sectors like industrial conglomerates and business support services that cause significant deviation from our benchmark. It's not a bad take on the market, but investors do need to be aware of its sector biases and large-cap tilt before jumping in. Effective fund management has kept true holding costs below the sticker price.
